Bénin interior minister Djibril Mama Cisse tours security units in Kandi and Parakou
Interior minister Djibril Mama Cisse continues his security tour across Bénin, visiting Kandi and Parakou to fine-tune public safety strategies and hear the concerns of security forces.
Interior and Public Security Minister Djibril Mama Cisse continued his nationwide security tour on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, with stops in the cities of Kandi and Parakou.
Accompanied by his delegation, the minister visited the base of the Special Multipurpose Intervention Group (GSPI) in Kandi, the headquarters of the departmental civil protection agencies of Alibori and Borgou, the Mobile Intervention Company of the Republican Police in Parakou, and the Departmental Directorate of Interior and Public Security in Parakou. The goal of the tour is to assess ground-level security realities and refine strategies and plans for public safety in Bénin.
“I want my presence here to be interpreted as my willingness to listen. I have come to hear you,” the minister declared as he opened discussions with police officers of all ranks and categories gathered at the Republican Police Special Intervention Group base in Kandi. In both Parakou and Kandi, he encouraged open dialogue so that each officer could express challenges they face. Resolving these issues through hierarchical and governmental action could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
The concerns raised included career management, promotions, the duration of postings in high-risk areas, lack of motivation, insufficient or absent risk allowances, a shortage of specialists, and inadequate human resources. Other problems mentioned were the absence of GSM networks in certain localities, sabotage of communication towers, and the lack of protection at some police stations.
In response, the director general of the Republican Police, the ministry’s secretary general, and other members of the delegation explained ongoing efforts to address some of these issues, current deliberations, and potential solutions, particularly those related to officers’ career paths.
Minister Djibril Mama Cisse congratulated the security forces on behalf of the government and its leader, praising their bravery and spirit of sacrifice. He noted that thanks to them, Béninese citizens can go about their daily lives in peace and tranquillity. “It is thanks to you that the Republic stands firm,” he stated.
“I did not come to make promises. But we must meet the challenges,” he continued. Djibril Mama Cisse called on all components of the public security forces to fully commit themselves. Resolving the issues raised will be the government’s priority so that Bénin remains secure and can pursue its development without hindrance.
