The Malian government has initiated a significant program, announcing substantial financial rewards for anyone who can furnish intelligence leading to the location and capture of individuals implicated in attacks targeting citizens and vital installations throughout the nation.

Officials have specified that a colossal two billion CFA francs, roughly equivalent to 3.55 million US dollars, is being offered for information directly resulting in the apprehension of Iyad Ag Gali, the paramount leader of the ‘Nasra al-Islam wal-Muslimin’ group. Other wanted individuals also have considerable, albeit lesser, rewards attached to their capture.

Among those prominently featured on the government’s list of high-value targets is El Ghabas Ag Antala, a key figure within the Tuareg separatist movements operating in Mali’s northern territories.

This strategic move by Bamako follows a series of violent incursions in April, which were claimed by groups with ties to Al-Qaeda. These incidents reportedly resulted in the tragic death of the Defense Minister and injuries to other high-ranking officials. The widespread violence triggered intense confrontations across extensive desert areas in the country’s northern expanse, intensifying fears that armed factions could consolidate further territorial control.

The decree formalizing these rewards was issued in Bamako and bears the signature of Major General Daoud Ali Mohamedine, Mali’s esteemed Minister of Security and Civil Protection.
