A significant milestone has been achieved as Morocco’s national carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), inaugurated its new direct service connecting Casablanca with Los Angeles this Sunday. This groundbreaking route establishes the first-ever direct air link between the African continent and the Pacific coast of the United States.
The inaugural flight departed from Mohammed V Airport at 04:00, embarking on a direct journey estimated to last 12 hours.
This launch holds particular significance, aligning with the celebration of two and a half centuries of friendship between Morocco and the United States. Furthermore, it coincides with the impending start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco’s national team, the Lions of the Atlas, will compete.
“The introduction of this route represents a historic landmark for Royal Air Maroc and for enhancing air connectivity across the African continent,” stated Hamid Addou, Chairman and CEO of RAM. He added, “By bringing Morocco closer to the American West Coast, we reinforce our pivotal role and dedication to elevating Morocco’s international standing.”
Three weekly flights to boost Casablanca’s major hub
The new service will operate three times a week, utilizing state-of-the-art wide-body aircraft. Flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Departures from Casablanca are set for 04:00, arriving in Los Angeles at 08:20 local time. Return flights will depart California at 10:20, landing back in Casablanca at 05:25 the following day.
This expansion aligns with the national airline’s development strategy, formalized in an agreement with the government in July 2023. Its primary objective is to solidify Casablanca’s position as a crucial air hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the Americas, while simultaneously catering to the significant demand from the Moroccan diaspora, tourists, business travelers, and football enthusiasts.
With this latest inauguration, RAM further strengthens its presence across North America, complementing its established direct routes to New York, Washington, Miami, Montréal, and Toronto.
