Tchad’s Supreme Court delivers final verdict in Succès Masra case

The legal saga surrounding Succès Masra, a prominent political figure in Chad, has reached its conclusion. The country’s highest court has upheld his 20-year prison sentence, marking the definitive end of his appeal process.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by the former Prime Minister and leader of the Les Transformateurs party. The ruling confirms the August 9, 2025 verdict, which found Masra and over 70 co-defendants guilty of multiple charges, including racist and xenophobic messaging, criminal association, and complicity in murder—all tied to the tragic events at Mandakao.

Legal battle concludes with no further appeals possible

Despite the efforts of Kadjilembaye Francis, the lead defense attorney, the Supreme Court’s decision is final. No domestic legal avenues remain open to Masra, leaving presidential clemency as the only potential recourse. Unless granted a pardon, he will serve the full duration of his sentence.

Representatives of Les Transformateurs have already condemned the ruling as unjust, calling it a politically motivated attack on their leader. Legal experts note that any further action would require escalating the case to regional or international courts, a path that remains uncertain and time-consuming.
