Le Premier ministre sénégalais Ahmadou Al Amine Mohamed Lô

Dakar, Senegal – Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Amine Mohamed Lô has officially announced the formation of Senegal’s new government, a 30-member cabinet notably devoid of representatives from the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party. This development unfolds despite PASTEF holding a majority in the National Assembly, marking a significant moment in Senegalese politics.

The cabinet overhaul emerges amid a broader national political realignment, which sees a blend of technocratic experts and seasoned political figures joining the executive branch. Prior to the official announcement, former Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko had publicly indicated that members of his political movement would not participate in the incoming administration, a decision stemming from earlier discussions and party commitments.

Outlining the strategic direction for this new team, Prime Minister Lô characterized it as a “government of mission with an obligation for results.” He emphasized its dual foundation in political experience and technocratic expertise, highlighting a deliberate effort to include both young talents and women in key roles.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister detailed a refreshed approach to governmental operations, stressing institutional coherence and a concerted effort to harness the capabilities of both national experts and the Senegalese diaspora.

The new governmental structure also sees the continuity of several key ministers from the preceding administration. These include Cheikh Diba, who retains his portfolio at the Ministry of Economy; Cheikh Niane, continuing as Minister of Foreign Affairs; Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, overseeing Hydraulics and Sanitation; and Moustapha Guirassy, remaining at the helm of National Education.

Other familiar faces maintaining their responsibilities are Ibrahima Sy for Health, Moussa Bala Fofana for Urbanism, Yankhoba Diémé for the Armed Forces, Déthié Fall for Infrastructure, and Bakary Sarr for Communication.

This cabinet reshuffle follows President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s appointment of Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as Prime Minister on May 26. He assumes the role previously held by Ousmane Sonko, who has since been elected to the esteemed position of President of the Senegalese National Assembly.
