Akere Muna welcomes Pope Leo XIV’s appointment of Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelization. The appointment places the Cameroonian prelate in a key role assisting the Holy See in the development of young churches and global mission guidance.
Civil society leader Akere Muna has publicly praised the decision. The prominent lawyer called the nomination a deep recognition of Nkea’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service, and unwavering commitment to the Church. He further described it as a powerful testament to the light that Nkea continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.
“I am convinced that, in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and paternal compassion that have marked his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote in a statement.
Archbishop Nkea, who has served as Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda since 2019, was elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on April 30, 2022. He has been a prominent figure in peace dialogue efforts in the country’s crisis-hit regions.
