Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, commenced a significant two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad this Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, Minister Djellaoui’s agenda centers on exploring tangible strategies for advancing shared infrastructure initiatives, with a primary focus on the transformative Trans-Saharan Road project.
This pivotal visit underscores the direct directives issued by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. It also builds upon the productive discussions held during the Chadian President’s recent diplomatic trip to Algeria, embodying a mutual commitment to forge a “concrete and pragmatic” dimension in bilateral cooperation, ultimately serving the developmental aspirations of both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), touched down Wednesday evening at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport. They received a warm reception from Amir Idriss Kourda, the Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, alongside several other prominent Chadian officials.
The Algerian delegation is robust, comprising more than 14 seasoned experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, a continuation of the technical assessments initiated during their previous mission. Among the key figures are the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a cornerstone in the cooperation between Algeria and Chad, recognized as a primary catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a profound interest in the Trans-Saharan Road project, viewing it as a vital strategic artery designed to sustainably link the economies of both countries and the broader region. Consequently, this visit will primarily concentrate on the practical implementation of two crucial sections of the Trans-Saharan Road located within Chadian territory, which represent indispensable segments of this expansive continental thoroughfare.
Leveraging its extensive expertise acquired through national companies in executing major road infrastructure, particularly across challenging Saharan landscapes, Algeria is poised to contribute its technical prowess to this ambitious project. The aim is to catalyze a “major transformation” and significantly invigorate regional trade and exchanges.
Ultimately, this visit is anticipated to yield concrete outcomes that will substantially fortify Algerian-Chadian cooperation across the critical sectors of infrastructure and public works.
