Algeria continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting African nations in need through tangible solidarity initiatives. Following the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant in Niamey for Niger, Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, alongside Chad’s Prime Minister and Head of Government Allamaye Halina, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a similar facility in N’Djamena.

The new plant, another Algerian donation, will deliver reliable electricity to Chad while reinforcing regional energy integration. Just days prior, Algerian officials celebrated the completion of the Gorou Banda facility in Niger, marking another milestone in Algiers’ broader strategy to strengthen economic and social development across the Sahel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sifi Ghrieb emphasized Algeria’s dedication to fostering long-term partnerships with African countries, stating, “This project embodies the deep economic, social, and human dimensions of our solidarity, enhancing Chad’s energy capacity and supporting its sustainable development goals.”

He highlighted that the initiative reflects the shared political vision of both nations, reinforcing a strategic partnership built on mutual respect and cooperation. Sifi Ghrieb also conveyed the greetings of Algeria’s President to Chad’s leadership and people, reaffirming Algeria’s role in promoting African integration and prosperity.

The power plant is part of a broader Algerian commitment, including a $1 billion fund allocated through the Agence de coopération internationale pour la solidarité et le développement (AICA) to finance critical infrastructure projects across the continent. This latest effort underscores Algeria’s ongoing efforts to counter historical inequalities and foster self-sustaining growth in post-colonial African states.

The initiative follows high-level talks in April 2026 between Algeria’s President and Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, which resulted in expanded cooperation agreements across key sectors.
