The Prime Minister of Algeria, Sifi Ghrieb, landed in Niamey on Wednesday for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Initiated at the request of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this mission underscores the shared ambition to strengthen partnerships across key sectors.
The Algerian delegation includes the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, along with the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation in Solidarity and Development.
During the initial discussions, both Prime Ministers reviewed the state of bilateral relations and explored avenues to expand cooperation in areas of mutual benefit. The talks are designed to reinvigorate development projects and partnership initiatives between Algiers and Niamey.
A highlight of the visit is the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant in the Gorou Banda district of Niamey. Funded as part of Algerian-Nigerien collaboration, this project serves as a gift from Algeria to Niger, aligning with efforts to bolster the neighboring country’s energy infrastructure.
This new facility is expected to enhance Niger’s electricity production capacity and improve energy supply in several areas of the capital. It also reflects Algeria’s commitment to fostering development and stability across the Sahel-Saharan region.
The visit’s agenda also includes a meeting between the Algerian Prime Minister and Niger’s President. This discussion will focus on exploring future cooperation opportunities between the two countries, alongside addressing regional and international issues.
This official visit follows a period of heightened political and economic exchanges between Algiers and Niamey, as both nations demonstrate their dedication to strengthening ties for the benefit of their respective populations.
