The Stallions women’s team wrapped up another series of friendly matches as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). After a goalless draw in their first meeting, Burkina Faso and Mali once again shared the points, this time settling for a 2-2 stalemate on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.

The Malian side struck first in this friendly encounter. In the 10th minute, Fatoumata Diarra gave the Aiglonnes of Mali an early lead (0-1). The Stallions remained composed and quickly regained their rhythm. They took control of the ball and made the Malian players chase.

A shot came back off the crossbar, and Deborah Guira, who was well positioned, collected the rebound and fired it into the net (1-1). Parity was restored.

Despite the technical quality of the Aiglonnes, the Burkinabe imposed their style of play. From another well‑worked move, Judicaëlle Ouoba sent the ball into the top corner. The Malian goalkeeper had no chance. The players of coach Pascal Sawadogo moved ahead (2-1). That remained the score at halftime.

Mali fight back

In the second half, the Stallions enjoyed greater ball possession, while the Malian attack pressed forward without managing to break through the Burkinabe defensive organisation.

Eventually, the Malians were awarded a penalty, which Aissata Traoré converted to level the match (2-2). That proved to be the final score, even though both teams pushed hard until the final whistle.

In the first friendly, the two sides had played out a 0-0 draw. These matches are part of the build‑up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco.

Burkina Faso are placed in a group with Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and South Africa. Mali share a group with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Cameroon.

The tournament is set to run from 25 July to 16 August 2026. This friendly gave Pascal Sawadogo and his players another chance to sharpen their preparations ahead of the competition.
