Tchad : Le CPDP dévoile sa stratégie pour un climat politique apaisé
The Permanent Framework for Political Dialogue (CPDP) in Chad unveils its roadmap to restore trust and calm the political climate, featuring electoral reforms and support measures.
Five months following its official establishment, Chad’s Permanent Framework for Political Dialogue (CPDP) has broken its silence. During a press briefing held this Saturday, June 13, 2026, its president, Pahimi Padacké Albert, unveiled the comprehensive roadmap designed to guide the body’s future endeavors. The overarching goal is clear: to rebuild trust and foster a sustainably healthier democratic environment across Chad.
Forging trust through structured dialogue
Recalling the foundational reasons for its creation, Mr. Padacké Albert emphasized that the CPDP emerged from the Political Accord Protocol of May 13, 2025. This vital institution brings together all legally recognized political parties within Chad. With a balanced, thirty-member coordination — comprising fifteen representatives from the presidential majority and fifteen from the democratic opposition — the CPDP aims to serve as a pivotal force for much-needed political appeasement in West Africa.
« Without a calm and serene political atmosphere, without a consensual reform of the electoral system, and without an inclusive approach […], no political dialogue can truly restore lasting trust, » asserted the CPDP president, highlighting the urgency of their mission for African politics.
Three core pillars for profound reform
The newly presented roadmap, envisioned as an « operational guide, » is structured around three primary objectives:
- Electoral system overhaul: This represents the foremost priority. It involves a complete restructuring of electoral management bodies, a thorough revision of the electoral code, re-evaluation of National Assembly seat distribution, a new method for appointing senators, and adjustments to territorial divisions and the status of the opposition. The ultimate aim is to align electoral regulations with international standards for transparency and fairness.
- Supportive measures: This strategic axis focuses on safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. Key initiatives include establishing a reliable electoral roll and implementing equitable funding mechanisms for political parties.
- Cross-cutting initiatives: The CPDP is committed to ensuring continuity and broad inclusivity. This involves actively engaging state institutions and technical and financial partners, while also maintaining continuous dialogue with political parties that were not initial signatories to the foundational protocol.
A call for citizen engagement
To transform these ambitious goals into tangible realities, Senator Padacké Albert stressed the imperative of a « strong political will » at every level of governance. He also issued a robust appeal to the media, urging them to extensively disseminate this roadmap. This widespread communication is crucial to ensure that every Chadian citizen can fully understand and embrace the CPDP’s critical missions and actions.
The CPDP is now poised to translate these broad objectives into a detailed action plan, complete with specific operational modalities and a clear implementation timeline. The question remains whether this pronounced commitment to dialogue, championed by the coordination, will successfully defuse recurrent tensions and permanently embed serenity within Chad’s political class.
