Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo sees 19 recoveries

Since the official declaration of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease on May 15 in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), rapid response measures have been implemented across affected health zones in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Nineteen patients have now recovered from the disease and been discharged from Ebola treatment centers, according to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).
As of June 7, health data shows 550 confirmed cases including 101 deaths across the affected zones, with 309 patients currently isolated for treatment. Ituri province remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for 17 of the 25 affected health zones—a striking 47% of Ituri’s 36 total health zones. The most impacted areas include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.
