Bénin: mandatory uniform for Kétou’s taxi-moto drivers
In Kétou, Bénin, motorcycle taxi drivers are soon to operate under a new mandate requiring them to wear a standardized uniform. The local municipality is initiating an enrollment campaign to implement this reform, which officials state will enhance security, improve driver identification, and foster a more organized urban transport system.

This significant decision, encompassing all six arrondissements within the commune, aims to bring greater structure to the often-unregulated taxi-moto sector. According to municipal authorities, this measure will significantly simplify the identification of drivers, thereby boosting the safety of passengers and contributing to a more orderly urban environment across Kétou.
To facilitate its rollout, an extensive enrollment drive is scheduled from July 6 to July 20, 2026. Drivers are required to present themselves at the administrative secretariats of their respective arrondissements with a valid form of identification for registration. Completing this essential formality is a prerequisite for receiving the official uniform.
Following the conclusion of this registration period, only those drivers who have successfully enrolled and are properly attired in the prescribed uniform will be authorized to transport passengers. The municipal administration has issued a clear warning that any driver found in breach of this new obligation will face penalties in accordance with current regulations.
Local officials are also appealing to the public to actively support this initiative by choosing to ride only with officially identified drivers. Arrondissement leaders, various taxi-moto driver associations, and local security agencies have been tasked with ensuring the effective and widespread adherence to this important new directive.
