This past Monday, the municipal authorities of the 7th district in N’Djamena initiated a sweeping operation aimed at reclaiming public thoroughfares on Taïwan Avenue. The primary objective is to eliminate unauthorized encroachments that have choked the roadway, thereby enhancing traffic flow, bolstering pedestrian safety, and elevating urban aesthetics in this bustling part of the capital.
Under the direct supervision of the district mayor, the cleanup drive focuses on dismantling illegal structures, removing makeshift market stalls that spill onto the road, and addressing the issue of stray livestock that frequently disrupts vehicular movement.
The urgency of this initiative stems from the alarming rise in traffic congestion and road accidents attributed to the chaotic occupation of public spaces. Speaking to residents, the mayor of the 7th district, Adoum Hassan Djimet, emphasized the critical need for collective action to restore order.
« The roads must breathe. I urge every resident of the 7th district to embrace this change as a shared responsibility. Each day, lives are lost because of obstructed pathways. This is no longer acceptable, » declared Mayor Djimet.
The municipal leadership has issued a stern warning to those who persist in illegally occupying public roads. Violators will face immediate consequences, including the confiscation of goods and the impounding of stray animals.
« Anyone obstructing the roads will be apprehended, and their merchandise will be seized. Similarly, stray animals will be collected and handled appropriately, » the mayor stated firmly.
