On Monday, June 15, 2026, N’Djamena hosted the inaugural session of a crucial workshop at the Radisson Blu. This significant gathering marked the validation of strategic documents for the Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT), bringing together an assembly of directors, technical managers, municipal administration executives, and specialists from the Center for Innovation and Development (CID).
The sole address delivered during the opening ceremony came from Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, the esteemed Mayor of N’Djamena. He reflected on the initial Board of Directors meeting for the Municipal Agency for Major Works, held just months prior. That foundational assembly, he emphasized, provided a clearer understanding of the challenges, mandates, and aspirations entrusted to this newly established body, fostering stronger collaboration among its members.
“The AMGT’s establishment was a strategic move to bolster the Commune’s capabilities in designing, planning, funding, and executing transformative projects,” Mayor Abdoulaye articulated. “These initiatives are vital for addressing the population’s needs and realizing the capital’s ambitious development goals, ultimately ensuring effective governance and robust management tools for N’Djamena’s progress.” He further highlighted the significant hurdles posed by rapid urbanization, population growth, strain on urban infrastructure, sanitation demands, and climate resilience. In light of these issues, he stressed that the AMGT is poised to become a pivotal force in delivering the essential infrastructure and facilities required for balanced and sustainable development within the city.
Urging attendees to engage actively in discussions, share their valuable insights, and propose observations or recommendations to refine the documents under review, the Mayor affirmed that the caliber of their input would solidify the Agency’s institutional bedrock and guarantee its optimal effectiveness for years to come. He underscored that the ultimate success of this critical mission hinges on the excellence of the AMGT’s organizational structure, the robustness of its operational mechanisms, and the unwavering commitment to transparent governance in its management protocols, crucial for the African economy today.
The participants meticulously examined several key documents. These included the administrative, financial, and accounting management manual, designed to provide a robust framework for resource allocation and performance measurement. Also under scrutiny was the monitoring and evaluation manual, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and fostering a strong culture of accountability. Finally, the environmental, social, and gender management framework was reviewed, ensuring that principles of sustainable development, social inclusion, equity, and environmental protection are thoroughly integrated across all of the Agency’s interventions, contributing significantly to N’Djamena urban development.
