With the PASTEF party’s congress just two days away, the President’s senior advisor, Aldiouma Sow, stepped forward to address Ousmane Sonko’s latest controversial remarks. In a pointed rebuttal, Sow vigorously defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye against allegations of a so-called ‘secret pact’ allegedly formed during their detention at Cap Manuel.
Sow dismissed the claims outright, asserting that the head of state has never entered into any clandestine agreements while in prison. He emphasized that Bassirou Diomaye Faye has remained steadfast in his political convictions and dedication to the democratic transition that culminated in the 2024 shift in power.
The presidential advisor also rejected any suggestion that the president collaborated in undermining Senegal’s electoral sovereignty. ‘He has never engaged in any maneuver to hijack the people’s sovereign right to choose their leader,’ Sow declared.
Sow went on to highlight President Faye’s unwavering commitment to political dialogue. In his view, dialogue for the president is not a temporary bargaining chip or a tactical maneuver to manipulate power dynamics. Instead, it is a core principle that shapes his governance and institutional decisions.
This public intervention comes at a time of heightened speculation within the ruling party and among PASTEF supporters, as the upcoming congress looms large. Aldiouma Sow’s remarks have reignited discussions about the relationship between the two key figures in Senegal’s executive branch and the future direction of the government.
