As the countdown begins for the 138th edition of the Popenguine Marian Pilgrimage, Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko paid a courtesy visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Victories in Dakar. The high-level meeting took place in an atmosphere of warmth and mutual respect, with Monseigneur André Guèye, the Archbishop of Dakar, welcoming the delegation.
The Prime Minister arrived accompanied by Marie Rose Faye, Government Spokesperson and Minister, along with Béatrice Germaine Faye, a member of parliament. Discussions centered on critical national themes, particularly social cohesion, interfaith dialogue, and community harmony, all of which are central to the preparations for the upcoming religious gathering in Popenguine.
Sonko underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and unity—values that have long defined Senegal’s societal model. He also highlighted the pivotal role religious leaders play in sustaining national stability and cohesion. In response, Monseigneur Guèye conveyed his appreciation for the visit and offered prayers for national peace, unity, and the success of development initiatives across the country.
This meeting comes at a time of heightened spiritual anticipation as Senegal prepares for the Popenguine Marian Pilgrimage, one of the most significant religious events in the nation. The annual gathering draws thousands of pilgrims and remains a cornerstone of Senegal’s cultural and religious heritage.
