The Alliance for the Republic (APR) has publicly declared its “profound indignation” regarding the recent arrest of its colleague, Pape Malick Ndour. This detention follows the execution of a warrant in connection with the PRODAC financial case.

In a statement released by the party of former President Macky Sall, the APR asserts that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko was the first to announce this “hostage-taking,” thereby implicating him as the “instigator” behind the action.

The APR contends that the accusations against Ndour, supposedly based on a 2018 report from the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF), lack serious legal foundation. They highlight that Pape Malick Ndour was not appointed to PRODAC until June 2019, making the 2018 report irrelevant to his tenure. The party views this as an unjust “judicial sequestration of an honest citizen who performed excellent work as PRODAC coordinator.”

According to Macky Sall’s party, the accounting expertise report, which forms the basis of the prosecution, is deemed non-contradictory and relies on “very weak assertions that contradict reality.”

The APR describes the alleged offenses as “disconcertingly trivial.” The party vehemently condemns the “systematic recourse to measures depriving individuals of liberty in cases where the fundamental guarantees of a fair procedure appear severely compromised.”

The Alliance for the Republic finds it “particularly concerning that a decision with such grave consequences for individual liberties could be based on elements of such great lightness, insufficiently contradictory, or manifestly false.”

Furthermore, the party of Macky Sall reiterates its concern that such a weighty decision impacting individual freedoms could be founded on evidence so flimsy, lacking proper corroboration, or demonstrably false when weighed against the alleged facts.

Through this affair, the APR believes a broader issue is being raised concerning the respect for defense rights, the presumption of innocence, and public liberties. In response, the party rejects any notion of “our democracy settling into a logic of criminalizing the opposition and intimidating political leaders.”

The APR reaffirms its complete, unwavering, and unconditional support for Pape Malick Ndour, as well as his family, close associates, and legal counsel. It urges all militants and party officials to remain mobilized, vigilant, and united against any “attempt to challenge democratic principles and fundamental freedoms.”

Finally, the APR holds the Government “solely and uniquely responsible for any harm to the physical and moral integrity of Pape Malick Ndour.” They demand Pape Malick Ndour’s immediate and unconditional release.

The party concludes by affirming its commitment to stand firm alongside all those experiencing injustice, “with the conviction that justice will always triumph over arbitrariness.”
