On the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day, King Mohammed VI received a message from U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirming Washington’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara issue and its endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy initiative.
In his communication, President Trump stated, «The United States recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports the Moroccan proposal for autonomy as a serious, credible, and realistic foundation for a just and lasting solution.»
He emphasized that alternative approaches merely sustain the status quo, which he deemed «unacceptable,» urging an end to the dispute. «This conflict must conclude now, and the United States will continue driving progress toward this end,» he asserted.
Beyond geopolitical declarations, Trump’s message celebrated the «250-year history of American friendship with Morocco,» describing the bond as «rooted in mutual trust and respect.»
He commended King Mohammed VI’s «wise leadership,» portraying him as a «pillar of stability» in the region. The President also highlighted Morocco’s contributions to regional peace, counter-extremism efforts, and security collaboration, particularly through the Abraham Accords.
Additionally, Trump pledged intensified cooperation to «strengthen security across the Sahel,» underscoring the shared commitment to stability in North and West Africa.
Economically, he directed his administration to «advance economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory.» Key sectors identified for partnership include technology, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.
«Together, we will forge a new era,» Trump concluded, calling for a partnership prioritizing the interests of both nations’ peoples.
