Cameroon and Chad commit to smoother trade transit corridor

The talks focused on improving cargo transit efficiency between the two nations and addressing challenges faced by transporters.
The meeting followed the Tripartite Forum involving Chad, Cameroon, and the Central African Republic, where key transport sector developments were reviewed. Present at the discussions were Chad’s Minister of Transport, Fatima Goukouni Weddeye, alongside officials from the Douala Port Authority, Chad’s Shippers’ Council, and the Central African Republic’s Shippers’ Council.
Both sides evaluated the progress of transport cooperation initiatives, particularly the outcomes from the 2024 Kribi forum. The state of the trans-Cameroon corridor and persistent obstacles affecting goods movement along the Douala-N’Djamena route were highlighted. Cameroon’s Transport Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to enhancing cargo flow efficiency to Chad.
Chad’s Prime Minister acknowledged ongoing issues faced by Cameroonian drivers and motorcyclists detained in Chad and assured a favorable resolution. He also raised concerns about recurring roadblocks disrupting trade along the corridor, directing the Cameroonian minister to relay these concerns to national authorities for resolution.
