On 30 June 2026, Camwater and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a partnership agreement in Yaoundé aimed at sustainably improving access to safe drinking water for refugees and host communities, particularly in the Far North region.
Camwater and UNHCR are strengthening their collaboration to support vulnerable populations. On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, the two entities formalised a partnership in Yaoundé to enhance drinking water supply in the Minawao refugee camp area, located in the Far North region.
The agreement was signed by Dr Blaise Moussa, Director General of Camwater, and Yvette Muhimpundu, UNHCR representative in Cameroon. It is part of the “Alternative Solutions for Minawao Camp” project, backed by the European Union, German Cooperation (GIZ), and UNHCR.
Under this deal, Camwater will contribute its expertise to designing, constructing, and monitoring water supply infrastructure, while UNHCR will continue its efforts to protect refugees and build their resilience, working alongside Cameroonian authorities.
Both institutions aim to improve living conditions for refugees and host communities while addressing challenges from population pressure and sustainable water resource management.
