Chad clears financial arrears to CEEAC in show of regional support
On Monday, July 13, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno welcomed a delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC) led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the organization’s current Chair of the Council of Ministers.
The high-level meeting introduced the newly appointed CEEAC Commission leadership: Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice-President.
A key outcome of the audience was Chad’s commitment to settle its outstanding financial obligations to the regional body. President Déby instructed government officials to clear all of Chad’s unpaid contributions to the CEEAC budget and ensure future payments are made on time.
In a formal statement, the Chadian Head of State emphasized his country’s dedication to the organization’s success, stating that Chad will consistently meet its financial commitments. He also praised CEEAC’s role in supporting constitutional transitions in Chad and Gabon, reinforcing the country’s political, economic, and financial backing for the regional institution.
During discussions, CEEAC representatives outlined their strategic priorities and key challenges, highlighting plans to accelerate economic integration in Central Africa. Their goals include boosting intra-regional trade, improving transport infrastructure, facilitating free movement of people and goods, and strengthening the free trade zone.
Rosario Mbasogo Kung commended the assurances provided by President Déby, stressing that CEEAC’s effectiveness depends on both institutional action and member states’ commitment to fostering peace, integration, prosperity, and solidarity across Central Africa.
