Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an immediate nationwide ban on four yogurt brands manufactured in N’Djamena after rigorous quality checks exposed serious health and hygiene violations.
In an official statement signed by Minister Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, the announcement follows a week-long inspection campaign (June 1–5, 2026) by the Centre de Contrôle de Qualité des Denrées Alimentaires (CECOQDA) across multiple yogurt production facilities in the capital.
The findings revealed alarming deficiencies in microbiological safety, physicochemical stability, and adherence to food hygiene standards. Contamination risks were identified in storage conditions, processing environments, and final product handling.
Four brands pulled from shelves
The ministry has named Tami Yaourt, Yaourt Alkhiza, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar as non-compliant. All batches produced by these companies must be withdrawn from circulation immediately and distribution suspended until further notice.
Path to compliance
Affected producers have been directed to implement CECOQDA’s corrective measures without delay. Compliance deadlines and follow-up audits will determine when these brands can resume sales.
Stricter oversight ahead
Chad’s food safety authorities have pledged to expand unannounced inspections to additional food processing and retail facilities nationwide. Consumers are urged to report suspicious products to local health offices.
