Chelsea Football Club has finalized the acquisition of England international Morgan Rogers, luring the young attacking talent away from Aston Villa to bolster the Blues’ squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The London-based club confirmed through an official statement that Rogers, aged 23, has signed a long-term contract binding him to Stamford Bridge until June 2033. The deal comes as Xabi Alonso prepares his team for the new campaign, with the Spanish manager set to integrate the promising forward into his tactical plans.
From Villans to Blues: A rising star’s journey
Rogers arrives at Chelsea following a standout performance at Aston Villa, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young offensive players. His contributions were pivotal in securing 40 goals in 85 league appearances for the Villans, helping the Birmingham-based club secure a top-four finish and ultimately claim the UEFA Europa League trophy last season.
The English forward’s international career has also flourished, with 22 caps earned for the Three Lions since his debut in November 2024. His standout performances for England included a third-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role in the national team’s run to the podium.
A transfer record and fierce competition
The transfer fee for Rogers has been reported at approximately €117 million (£138 million), making it the second-most expensive deal in Premier League history. This figure places Chelsea’s acquisition just behind the €125 million (£120 million) spent on Alexander Isak during his move from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer.
The race to sign Rogers was intense, with Arsenal initially leading the pursuit before Chelsea swooped in to secure the player’s signature. The Blues celebrated the deal by sharing a video on social media platform X, simply captioned with the words: ‘He chose Chelsea.’
