Chelsea Football Club has stunned the football world by securing the signing of winger Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal that shatters the Premier League transfer record.
The 23-year-old English international has joined the Blues in a deal worth an eye-watering £117 million, eclipsing the previous record set by Elliot Anderson when he moved to Manchester City for £135 million just days earlier.
Rogers has committed his future to Chelsea with a six-year contract plus a one-year option, making him not only the club’s most expensive acquisition but also the most valuable English footballer in history.
In his first public statement as a Chelsea player, Rogers expressed his excitement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be here. Chelsea is the greatest club in London and one I’ve admired since I was a child.”
The young star revealed that Arsenal were also in the race for his signature before he opted for Stamford Bridge.
