The incident unfolded during a gathering where Dièye declared her remarks were made “under the presence of Seyidina Ousmane Sonko Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam,” a phrase typically reserved for the Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings upon him) and, in certain traditions, other recognized prophets. This invocation holds deep spiritual significance in Islam and is not to be used for any political figure, no matter their stature. The perceived breach of religious decorum has left many questioning the appropriateness of such language in a political context.
