Côte d’Ivoire champions human-centered migration policies at international forum

The Côte d’Ivoire is making its mark on the global stage by actively participating in the second session of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Through this strategic engagement, the country reaffirms its commitment to migration governance rooted in cooperation, human dignity, and sustainable development.

This high-level gathering focuses on assessing progress toward implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration, adopted in 2018 in Marrakech. The event brings together nations to address critical issues surrounding global human mobility.

Ivorian leadership in migration governance

Representing Côte d’Ivoire at the forum, Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director-General of the National Population Office (ONP), delivered a keynote address during high-level sessions. He highlighted the country’s achievements in migration management, emphasizing strides in data production systems, vulnerability reduction, anti-discrimination measures, and international cooperation.

Dr. Moustapha underscored the importance of data-driven migration policies, noting that Côte d’Ivoire has undergone a structural transformation in its migration data collection and analysis. The goal? To provide policymakers with reliable, up-to-date, and disaggregated insights to shape effective public policies.

Strengthening migration statistics for informed decisions

A key milestone in this effort was the 2025 national migration survey, which positions Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in African migration governance. By prioritizing evidence-based policymaking, the country is setting new standards for transparency and accountability in migration management.

Beyond data, the Ivorian government has bolstered migrant protection mechanisms, including integrated support systems and inclusive social policies. These measures aim to provide better assistance to migrants while addressing vulnerabilities and reducing discrimination.

Promoting solidarity in global migration challenges

The Ivorian delegation at the IMRF also advocated for a cooperative approach to migration governance, emphasizing shared responsibility among countries of origin, transit, and destination. This vision aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s belief that migration should not be viewed solely as a security or social challenge but as a strategic opportunity for economic, cultural, and human development.

The country’s long-standing tradition of hospitality and openness continues to drive its efforts to harness migration as a catalyst for shared prosperity. By integrating dignity, solidarity, and data-driven strategies, Côte d’Ivoire is shaping a future where migration benefits all.
