Côte d’Ivoire boosts digital education with training for 75 school inspectors
In a significant move for West Africa news, Côte d’Ivoire has advanced its educational modernization through a targeted training initiative. From May 4 to 6, 2026, a workshop in Yamoussoukro gathered 75 pedagogical inspectors from 25 DRENAETs. The event was organized by UNESCO and the Ministry of National Education, Literacy, and Technical Education (MENAET), via its Directorate of Technologies and Information Systems (DTSI), with the goal of enhancing the digital capabilities of key figures in the education system.
This training represents the second phase of the Digital Skills Development for Supervisory and Teaching Staff (DCNPEE) project. It follows a successful initial phase that trained 43 inspectors, demonstrating a commitment to achieving progressive and fair national coverage. The project is a critical component in implementing the country’s National Strategy for the Digitalization of Education (SNDECI 2024-2028).
Over three intensive days, the participating inspectors, who specialize in Mathematics, Life and Earth Sciences (SVT), and Physics-Chemistry, were trained in using various digital tools. The sessions were designed to improve the effectiveness of teaching methods and educational supervision. Key skills included creating digital educational content, building interactive presentations, and incorporating artificial intelligence into their professional practices. The ultimate aim is to boost the quality of teaching and create more engaging learning experiences for students.
Participants commended the relevance of the training modules, noting they were well-suited to the current challenges facing the education system. Both UNESCO and the DTSI emphasized the strategic role of the inspectors, who are now expected to act as catalysts for digital transformation, sharing their new skills with teachers in their respective regions.
This step marks a significant advancement in the GIZ-funded DCNPEE 2 project. The next major activity will involve capacity-building for IT managers, moving closer to the goal of establishing a modern, inclusive, and high-performing Ivorian school system, a positive development for the African economy today.
