Led by Senate President Patrice Talon, the senators are gathering to establish the essential organizational foundations for the smooth operation of this new republican institution.

The agenda for this inaugural sitting is primarily dedicated to reviewing and adopting the Senate’s administrative and financial regulations. This foundational text will set internal governance rules, determine resource management procedures, and pave the way for the formal installation of the General Secretariat, thereby taking over the transitional mission entrusted on September 8 to administrator Édouard Ouin-Ouro.

Notable absences due to health reasons

This first parliamentary meeting will, however, be marked by the conspicuous absence of two major figures in national political life and former presidents of the Republic who are ex-officio members of the upper assembly. They are Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, who will not take part in Tuesday’s deliberations.
