Rabat hosts pivotal Morocco-France summit as diplomatic ties deepen
Rabat, the capital of Morocco, is set to host a landmark gathering on July 16 as high-level representatives from Morocco and France convene for the fifteenth session of their bilateral high-level meeting. This pivotal event underscores the robust and evolving partnership between the two nations, rooted in shared strategic interests and longstanding diplomatic collaboration.
The meeting takes place within the framework of the exceptional enhanced partnership binding Morocco and France, led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and French President Emmanuel Macron. A government statement highlighted the significance of this session in reinforcing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Speaking at the event, French Ambassador Philippe Lalliot emphasized the tangible progress being made in Morocco, stating, “From Rabat to Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and Laâyoune—where I recently inaugurated the first Alliance Française—we are not just discussing the future; we are actively building it, day by day.” The ambassador was joined by Moroccan Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada, who represented the Moroccan government.
Ambassador Lalliot drew attention to the breadth of the Morocco-France partnership, referencing a July 2024 letter from President Macron to King Mohammed VI. In that correspondence, the French president reaffirmed that “the future of the Sahara is inextricably linked to Morocco’s sovereignty.”
The French diplomat also underscored France’s role as the leading foreign investor and employer in Morocco, noting that French enterprises have played a foundational role in the growth of Morocco’s industrial sector for over a decade.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Lalliot outlined three key priorities for the partnership: addressing global challenges collaboratively, strengthening economic sectors of tomorrow, and fostering greater understanding between the two societies, particularly among the youth who represent the future of Franco-Moroccan relations.
