Valued at an estimated 689 million CFA francs, this vital fleet of equipment is a direct result of a robust and productive collaboration between Mali’s Ministry of Health and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Minister of Health, Assa Badiallo Touré, emphasized the ongoing nature of this support, stating, “This delivery is neither the first nor the last.” She recalled a previous acquisition in 2023, where 68 vehicles were procured with World Bank funding to support COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Further equipment deliveries are anticipated throughout 2026, signaling continued investment in the Malian health system.

During her address, Minister Touré affirmed, “These new vehicles will significantly boost the operational capabilities of our health facilities in monitoring health interventions, particularly those focused on vaccination.” She strongly urged all recipients and drivers to ensure diligent maintenance of the vehicles. The Minister underscored the critical importance of preserving this valuable equipment amidst prevailing challenges, as the Ministry actively works to expand its service vehicle fleet.

Representing the technical and financial partners, Fosca Giulidori, UNICEF’s representative in Mali, highlighted the profound symbolic significance of the occasion. She articulated, “Far beyond a mere transfer of keys, this event symbolizes a potent act of international solidarity, exemplified by Gavi’s unwavering commitment to accelerating global immunization and ensuring equitable access to life-saving vaccines.

According to Ms. Giulidori, these 39 vehicles are set to function as crucial lifelines for the health system in Mali. Their deployment will enable the secure and standard-compliant transportation of vaccines and other vital medical supplies to the most remote health centers. Furthermore, they will facilitate the deployment of mobile health teams to hard-to-reach communities, thereby strengthening immunization campaigns, nutritional monitoring, and the delivery of other essential healthcare services to populations across the country.
