The French embassy in Yaoundé has justified its tightened student visa requirements for Cameroonian applicants, announced during a July 16 press conference. The move targets fraudulent practices detected in applications processed through Campus France, including falsified bank statements, altered identity documents, and inaccurate financial proofs.
Muriel Piquet-Viaux, Advisor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, emphasized the embassy’s commitment to rigorous verification. All submitted documents now undergo meticulous cross-checking to prevent misrepresentation. Applicants enrolling in French private institutions must provide proof of full tuition payment or demonstrate sufficient funds before visa approval.
For students who have already paid deposits, the embassy clarified that procedures will vary by institution. Funds will be released once visas are granted, ensuring transparency in the process.
