French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu touched down in Rabat on July 15 for a two-day official visit, during which multiple agreements are set to be finalized. The trip also paves the way for a future state visit by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to France.
A dozen French ministers, including Foreign Affairs chief Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, accompanied Lecornu to ink deals spanning economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense partnerships. “Regional security remains an absolute priority for both Paris and Rabat,” highlighted diplomatic sources, underscoring the shared concerns over Sahel instability and rising terrorism risks.
The prime minister’s Moroccan stopover follows his first overseas diplomatic engagement—an official visit to Qatar the previous day, where he conveyed France’s condolences after the passing of former Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Relations between Morocco and France had faced turbulence in 2021 and 2022, making this visit particularly symbolic as both nations seek to reset and strengthen bilateral ties.
