Gabon’s digital transformation took a bold step forward this week with the launch of Kimba Connect 2026, the country’s first national open innovation challenge. The initiative, jointly organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitization and Innovation and the Federation of Gabonese Enterprises (FEG), was unveiled at the headquarters of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) in Libreville.
Designed to bridge the gap between businesses facing modern challenges and homegrown startups offering tailored digital solutions, the program invites companies to submit their most pressing transformation needs. In response, Gabonese startups will pitch innovative projects designed to address these challenges. The most promising solutions will receive mentorship and support to develop and implement them effectively.
The application window remains open until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, with a preliminary selection round scheduled for July 24. The grand finale of Kimba Connect 2026 is set for August 4, 2026, where the winning projects will be announced.
Speaking at the launch event, the Minister of Digital Economy, Mark Alexandre Doumba, emphasized that innovation holds real value only when it directly solves tangible problems. He highlighted that Kimba Connect 2026 will empower businesses to convert their challenges into growth opportunities while providing startups with enhanced market access and greater visibility.
The initiative’s objectives extend beyond immediate problem-solving. Organizers aim to foster a culture of open innovation, strengthen collaboration between established enterprises and burgeoning startups, and accelerate Gabon’s digital transformation. By showcasing local talent and fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship, the program seeks to boost the country’s economic competitiveness and drive sustainable growth.
Aligned with the government’s broader strategy to modernize the economy and reduce reliance on traditional sectors, Kimba Connect 2026 creates a structured platform for public-private partnership. Through this initiative, Gabon aims to nurture homegrown digital solutions that address the unique needs of its economy and position the nation as a hub for innovation in Central Africa.
