During a rigorous inspection operation ahead of the Tabaski festivities, authorities in Tchad successfully uncovered a clandestine animal slaughtering ring in N’Djamena. A specialized task force, including representatives from the Ministry of Livestock, the sanitary police coordination, and national defense forces, conducted a raid on a private property located in the Machaga district of the 8th arrondissement. There, they discovered more than 100 cattle and 40 sheep that were suffering from various illnesses.
The investigation revealed that these sick animals had been purchased by an unidentified international NGO, with the assistance of several local accomplices. The livestock was intended to be distributed as food donations to the public for the Tabaski holiday, posing a significant risk to community health.
Following the discovery, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, arrived at the scene to evaluate the gravity of the situation. He strongly condemned the actions that put the population’s safety at risk and immediately implemented emergency protocols.
Under the new directives, any animals that have already perished will be incinerated to prevent the spread of disease. For the livestock that can still be saved, veterinary teams have been tasked with providing necessary medical treatment and nourishment. Furthermore, officials have called for increased surveillance across the capital to ensure that all meat destined for consumption meets strict health standards.
