Rabat recently hosted a significant meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, and Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, the President of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The discussions, held on Tuesday, focused on enhancing coordination between the two nations across various aspects of air navigation.
This pivotal encounter took place on the sidelines of the 29th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco. Both delegations thoroughly explored strategies to bolster the safety and security of air navigation while identifying avenues for expanding their bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.
Minister Kayouh conveyed that the meeting served as an excellent opportunity to reaffirm the strong historical bonds between Morocco and Kuwait. A key point of discussion involved the re-establishment of the direct air route connecting Kuwait and Casablanca. He affirmed that Royal Air Maroc is fully committed to relaunching this vital service as soon as possible, following the integration of its new generation of long-haul aircraft into the fleet.
On his part, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah highlighted further discussions concerning a potential increase in air traffic between Kuwait and Morocco. This strategic foresight is in anticipation of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the Kingdom will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. The expected surge in tourism, both within Morocco and from the wider Gulf region, necessitates robust air connectivity.
The General Assembly session concluded with the election of new members to the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, including the General Assembly, the Executive Council, and various technical committees. Additionally, Khalid Cherkaoui was officially appointed as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
