Morocco takes part in Mombasa’s second political conference on the peace-security-development nexus
The Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, is actively participating in the second political conference on the peace-security-development nexus, held in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11 and 12.
This high-level gathering follows the inaugural conference in Tangier in October 2022, which resulted in the Tangier Declaration. That landmark agreement established an integrated African vision for the peace-security-development nexus, emphasizing coordinated public policies, strengthened partnerships, and concrete initiatives to foster sustainable peace, security, and development across the continent.
The Tangier Process has since emerged as Africa’s premier platform for dialogue on the interdependence of peace, security, and development. It brings together key continental and international stakeholders, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank.
The Mombasa conference aims to assess progress in implementing the Tangier Declaration while identifying operational strategies to deepen the nexus between peace, security, and development in Africa. Discussions will revolve around five key panels, covering:
- The implementation of the Tangier Declaration through targeted thematic projects;
- The role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations;
- The balance between security expenditures and development goals;
- Mobilizing financing for nexus-aligned projects;
- Lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.
During the event, Morocco will highlight its commitment to an integrated approach to peace, security, and development. The delegation will underscore the Kingdom’s advocacy for strengthened partnerships and homegrown solutions tailored to Africa’s unique priorities and challenges.
