Morocco renews its pledge to un peacekeeping operations
The discussions between the two parties focused on the important role and the substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Morocco’s contribution stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in the continuity of its long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping operations, which dates back to 1960.
Morocco, which currently ranks ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2026 and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping matters. These roles reflect the confidence the international community places in Morocco regarding international peace and security.
Mr. Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched major reform projects, both under the “UN 80” initiative, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the UN Secretariat, and through a comprehensive strategic review of all peacekeeping operations as well as the international peace and security architecture, with the goal of restoring the primacy of politics in conflict management.
