Alternative crédible: a new political force emerges in Côte d’Ivoire
Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire — On Saturday, July 4, 2026, a fresh political movement named Alternative crédible (ACR) was unveiled to the public during a press conference held in Grand-Bassam. The initiative, led by founding members including its National Executive Secretary Oxyde Tano, aims to redefine political engagement in response to the country’s pressing socio-economic and democratic challenges.
Founded on shared concerns
The ACR was officially established on December 1, 2025, born from the collective determination of Ivorian citizens—women, men, and youth from diverse backgrounds—who sought to transform the political landscape. According to Oxyde Tano, the movement’s creation stems from a shared recognition of Côte d’Ivoire’s paradox: a nation rich in human and natural resources yet grappling with persistent issues such as high cost of living, youth unemployment, social inequality, inadequate public services, and deep societal divides.
A human-centered vision for Côte d’Ivoire
Positioning itself as a left-leaning political force, the ACR places the individual at the heart of its mission. Its guiding principle envisions a Côte d’Ivoire that is just, prosperous, reconciled, democratic, united, and firmly rooted in the rule of law. With the slogan « Demain se décide aujourd’hui » (« Tomorrow is decided today »), the movement advocates for governance rooted in transparency, dialogue, and a relentless pursuit of the common good.
Key priorities unveiled
The ACR has outlined a comprehensive political agenda centered on several pivotal areas:
- Youth employment and entrepreneurship
- Education system reform
- Improved access to healthcare
- Agricultural modernization
- Enhanced security for people and property
- Women’s empowerment
- Combating high living costs
- Economic development
- Environmental protection
- Strengthening national unity
Oxyde Tano emphasized the ACR’s openness to collaboration with all political and social stakeholders who share its core values: peace, democracy, social justice, and sustainable development. The movement also pledged special attention to youth, women, workers, business leaders, students, and the Ivorian diaspora.
Next steps: a national launch in August
The official public launch of the ACR is scheduled for August in Cocody, where its President, Bamba Abou, will present the movement’s political vision and programmatic priorities. In the lead-up to this event, the ACR plans to conduct nationwide sensitization tours, general assemblies, local coordination setups, and mobilization campaigns to foster broad-based engagement across Côte d’Ivoire.
« The time has come to turn a new page in our history, » Oxyde Tano declared, reaffirming the ACR’s ambition to contribute to the construction of a more just, stronger, and more prosperous Côte d’Ivoire.
