Nyong-et-Kellé bridge nears completion with final access road works
As of late June 2026, the access road construction for the Nyong River bridge at Malombo is in its final stages, marking a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development.
As of June 29, 2026, access road construction for the Nyong River bridge at Malombo in Nyong-et-Kellé is in its final phases. Following the completion of paving works, CFHEC teams have begun installing signage while sanitation efforts continue.
The access roads, spanning 960 meters across both riverbanks, feature a dual-carriageway design with two 3.5-meter lanes and 1.5-meter shoulders on either side. The road structure comprises a 25cm lateritic foundation layer, a 20cm crushed gravel base, and a 5cm asphalt wearing course.
The bridge structure itself is also nearing completion. Public Works officials confirm the project will be delivered ahead of schedule—approximately eight months early. By June 11, Nyong River waters had receded enough to allow construction of the 160-meter bridge, whose steel-concrete composite design is now fully assembled. The access roads, though delayed by challenges like fuel theft, hostile community reactions, and adverse weather, are now progressing steadily toward completion.
CFHEC is now focusing on finalizing these elements under the oversight of the INTEGC/GENERAL ENGINEERING consortium, with the Ministry of Public Works ensuring consistent project monitoring. Despite obstacles including base camp security issues, personnel acclimatization challenges, and payment delays, the team remains committed to delivering a functional bridge that connects communities and enhances regional connectivity.
