Mondial 2026 – Echec des Lions, problèmes à la FSF… : Ousmane Sonko s’en mêle

Senegal’s unexpected early exit from the 2026 World Cup has ignited serious questions regarding the management practices within the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). In response, Deputy El Hadji Guèye has put forward a proposal for a parliamentary audit mission. This initiative aims to thoroughly investigate the administrative shortcomings believed to have contributed to the team’s disappointing performance, which has drawn widespread public criticism.
The premature elimination of Senegal in the round of sixteen at the 2026 World Cup is poised to have consequences extending far beyond the football pitch. A formal request for a parliamentary audit into the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has been submitted to the office of the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko.
This significant undertaking was initiated by Deputy El Hadji Guèye, who chairs the influential Commission for Sport and Youth. He emphasizes the critical need to fully uncover the underlying causes of this underperformance, which has profoundly disappointed the nation.
Parliamentary audit mission announced
“We intend to launch a parliamentary audit mission to examine the reasons behind this poor showing,” he stated publicly.
Should the Assembly’s Bureau grant its approval, the investigative process could involve summoning and hearing testimony from various FSF officials, administrative personnel, members of the technical staff, and any other individuals whose insights are deemed pertinent to the inquiry.
Preliminary information indicates that this parliamentary investigation will not delve into tactical decisions or sporting strategies. Instead, its focus will be squarely on administrative and organizational dimensions. This includes scrutinizing financial resource management, the composition of the delegation, the federation’s overall governance, and any potential operational failures that might have hindered the team’s preparation or performance during the tournament.
This parliamentary move unfolds amidst an already tense environment surrounding the FSF. Even before the World Cup commenced, several observers had voiced concerns over certain organizational practices related to the Senegalese delegation. Following their defeat against Belgium, controversies escalated, notably regarding an alleged altercation between Pape Guèye and federal officials, alongside persistent criticisms concerning the team’s internal management.
Tumultuous aftermath of elimination
While the Federation was quick to assign blame to coach Pape Thiaw, numerous voices within the public sphere have called for a more comprehensive analysis of the failure. These observers argue that the challenges faced by the Lions cannot be attributed solely to the technical coaching staff.
