This visit underscores the ongoing dialogue between Presidents Denis Sassou N’Guesso and Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, who are committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expediting the implementation of high-impact economic integration initiatives. Such high-level engagement is crucial for advancing African politics and regional development.
Central to their discussions was the proposed Brazzaville-Kinshasa road-rail bridge, recognized as one of the most transformative infrastructure endeavors in the sub-region. This strategic link is poised to connect the world’s two closest capital cities, significantly enhancing the movement of people and goods while bolstering commercial exchanges within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a key driver for the African economy today.
The two heads of state further reaffirmed their dedication to solidifying their energy sector partnership. They are notably focused on the “Energy Friendship Loop,” a project designed to interconnect the sub-region’s electrical grids. This ambitious undertaking aims to improve electricity supply and foster robust economic development across Central Africa.
In line with this vision, an agreement was signed to govern the implementation of this vital energy interconnection. It specifically outlines the development of a mega-hydroelectric dam project on the Likouala aux Herbes river, boasting an installed capacity of 12,900 megawatts. This collaborative venture, spearheaded by Congo, the DRC, and Angola, aspires to establish Central Africa as a significant hub for energy production on the continent.
Beyond economic matters, Presidents Denis Sassou N’Guesso and Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi continued their consultations regarding security challenges and stability concerns within the Great Lakes region and Central Africa. The two leaders reiterated their firm commitment to dialogue and intensified cooperation as indispensable conditions for preserving peace and ensuring the comprehensive development of both nations and the broader sub-region.
