Pastef deputy Guy Marius Sagna has disclosed the amounts Ousmane Sonko allegedly received through political funds during his tenure as Prime Minister. The lawmaker claims these payments totaled 1.7 billion F CFA, disbursed without any institutional framework. This revelation thrusts the National Assembly President into the spotlight of Senegal’s political funds management debate.

According to Guy Marius Sagna, while the sums themselves may not constitute irregularities—since their allocation is legally permitted—their lack of oversight mirrors the opaque handling of funds available to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The latter reportedly controls over 8 billion F CFA, distributed across political coffers, undisclosed reserves, special funds, and sovereign wealth allocations.

It is this disparity between the disclosed figures and the public stance on political fund regulation that has drawn sharp criticism from Guy Marius Sagna. The deputy condemns what he describes as President Faye’s breach of trust on the matter, while highlighting Ousmane Sonko’s continued advocacy for strict oversight of all political funds—a stance he maintained even in opposition. “This is the sorcery of some politicians.
