A delegation from the Sonelgaz group has arrived in N’Djamena to prepare for the start of a major energy infrastructure project: a 40 MW power plant in Chad. This initiative follows the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which focus on bolstering African cooperation and fostering strategic South-South partnerships. This specific collaboration was accelerated after the official visit of Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno to Algérie in late April.
Strengthening energy ties in N’Djamena
The Algerian mission, led by Yazid Djellouli, the CEO of Sonelgaz-International, was welcomed by the Director General of Tchad-Elec. The meeting included the Algerian ambassador to Chad and various representatives from the Chadian Ministry of Energy. Further high-level discussions took place with Tahir Hamid Nguilin, the Minister of State for Finance, Budget, and Economy, and Passalé Kanabé Marcelin, the Minister of Water and Energy. These talks highlight the vital economic and energy importance of the project for both nations.
Technical preparations and field coordination
The Algerian experts held a technical session with Tchad-Elec to address the regulatory and engineering aspects of the 40 MW plant. Key objectives included establishing a preparatory roadmap and creating joint task forces to ensure seamless coordination on the ground. These teams will conduct detailed site inspections to evaluate current infrastructure, analyze grid integration possibilities, and ensure all work aligns with international technical standards.
This mission underscores the shared commitment of Algérie and Chad to develop a resilient energy partnership. Furthermore, it demonstrates Sonelgaz‘s dedication to supporting its African neighbors through the transfer of technical expertise and the implementation of practical energy solutions tailored to the continent’s development goals.
