In a significant move to strengthen regional stability, Lomé and Kinshasa have intensified their diplomatic collaboration. During a high-level meeting in Pya, Togo‘s President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé engaged in discussions with Floribert Anzuluni, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)’s Minister of Regional Integration, who is on an official visit to Togo.

Addressing pressing security challenges in eastern DRC

The talks primarily focused on the escalating security crisis in eastern DRC, where persistent instability has raised concerns across the continent. Both leaders exchanged views on the security hurdles facing the region and explored pathways to restore peace and stability through ongoing mediation efforts.

Kinshasa acknowledges Togo’s diplomatic leadership

Following the meeting, Floribert Anzuluni conveyed Kinshasa’s appreciation for Faure Gnassingbé‘s unwavering commitment to resolving the crisis in the Great Lakes region. As the African Union (AU) Mediator for the eastern DRC conflict, Faure Gnassingbé has been actively consulting with stakeholders to forge a lasting political solution.

“The diplomatic initiatives led by Faure Gnassingbé are instrumental in advancing peace talks and fostering regional cooperation,” stated Floribert Anzuluni.

This engagement underscores Togo‘s influential role in continental security matters, reinforcing its reputation as a key player in African diplomacy.
