The cornerstone of Yaoundé’s drinking water supply network reconfiguration project was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Minkoameyos. This initiative aims to sustainably enhance access to clean water for numerous communities in the Cameroonian capital and its outskirts.

The official ceremony took place on the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. It was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, alongside Camwater’s Director General, Dr Blaise Moussa, as well as government members, diplomatic corps, local elected officials, and civil society representatives.

Mandated by President Paul Biya, this key project seeks to strengthen drinking water supply for residents of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo, especially those not yet connected to the network or facing frequent service interruptions.

Non-domestic subscribers, including industries, schools, and hospitals, are also among the main beneficiaries of this initiative.

For the project’s success, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba urged all stakeholders to work hand in hand and in perfect synergy to facilitate fieldwork. For his part, Camwater’s Director General assured that his institution will spare no effort to provide support and overcome any constraints that may arise, benefiting the populations of Yaoundé and its surroundings, whose daily needs continue to grow.
