Babacar Bâ, who presides over the Forum du Justiciable, has once again stepped forward to denounce what he characterizes as a glaring contradiction in former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s discourse on the transparency of political finances. In a public address, the human rights advocate highlighted that Sonko, who now champions integrity and good governance, himself benefited from a political fund exceeding 1.7 billion CFA francs during his tenure at the Primature – an amount Sonko had publicly acknowledged.
For Babacar Bâ, the irony is difficult to overlook. The current leader of Pastef had previously, on numerous occasions, condemned what he termed the state’s “black funds,” only to find himself, once in power, managing these very mechanisms he once criticized. The coordinator of the Forum du Justiciable has consistently made the issue of political funds a central campaign in recent months, repeatedly demanding that the Presidency, the Primature, and the National Assembly disclose the amounts received and submit to oversight by the Court of Accounts, ensuring greater transparency in African politics.
The Forum du Justiciable president describes governance in Senegal as a veritable institutional charade. He passionately appeals to the Senegalese people to awaken, unite, and reclaim their destiny, delivering a message that contrasts sharply with the typically technical tone of his previous calls for accountability in public financial management across West Africa.
