Cameroun disrupts human trafficking network exploiting job seekers with fake overseas offers
Operating under the guise of legitimate network marketing firms, the syndicate promised young Cameroonians lucrative employment abroad. Their trap was sprung by gendarmerie investigators, who have now detained 13 suspects pending legal proceedings.
Under the guise of network marketing enterprises, the suspects promised young Cameroonians high-paying jobs overseas. Their schemes unraveled when gendarmerie units launched a coordinated crackdown, leading to multiple arrests across several cities.
A total of 13 individuals connected to a transnational human trafficking network have been brought before the press at the National Gendarmerie headquarters in Yaoundé. The operation was overseen by Fiacre Kisito Atangana, Deputy Director of Central Coordination at the National Gendarmerie, who confirmed the syndicate operated under several aliases including QNET, IGNITE and UNIMEC.
The group specifically targeted students, unemployed youth, and job seekers, luring them with deceptive job offers abroad. While two suspected ringleaders are believed to be evading capture in the Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic, authorities continue to pursue leads across multiple Cameroonian cities.
