Aboubakary Abdoulaye calls for firm action against sexual violence and femicides
At the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate in Yaoundé on Tuesday, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, president of the upper chamber, urged the Cameroonian government to intensify efforts against child sexual abuse and femicides, which he described as increasingly alarming.
Aboubakary Abdoulaye, both Senate president and Lamido of Rey Bouba, made a solemn plea to the authorities for stronger measures against sexual violence targeting children and femicides in Cameroon.
Speaking at the Senate’s second ordinary session in Yaoundé, in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the National Assembly president, and several government members, he condemned acts that severely harm victims’ dignity, integrity, and lives.
“Sexual abuses against women and children, as well as femicides, must be fought with resolve,” he stated, calling on authorities to put an end to such violence.
This statement comes amid a period of strong national emotion following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The case, which triggered protests and a wave of outrage, reignites debates on child protection and the need for stronger prevention and punishment of gender-based violence.
