During an official working visit to Dakar, Senegal, Gabon’s Minister of State for Transport, Merchant Marine, and Logistics, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, met with his Senegalese counterpart, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye. The bilateral talks centered on upgrading infrastructure and strengthening partnerships, establishing a framework for knowledge sharing between Libreville and Dakar.
Gabon aims to emulate Senegal’s structural achievements to organize its own transport networks. Minister Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi noted: “We had the opportunity to exchange ideas with his teams on various issues related to land and air transport.” Senegal’s stellar management of the Blaise Diagne International Airport, alongside its expanding road and railway networks, serves as a benchmark for Gabonese authorities.
Adopting Senegal’s successful infrastructure model
The two leaders also discussed aligning safety and regulatory frameworks to meet international standards while ensuring seamless transport operations. They explored sharing expertise in technical administration, airport security, and professional training for sector personnel.
By leveraging Senegal’s achievements, Gabon aims to upgrade its infrastructure, optimize domestic traffic management, and reform public transit systems. This initiative aims to revitalize a sector in urgent need of modernization. Additionally, Gabon’s minister highlighted plans to develop logistics and multimodal transport networks, improving connections between road and air systems to better integrate remote areas and facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo, with Dakar serving as a blueprint.
Strengthening South-South cooperation
Beyond technical collaboration, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering South-South cooperation. By pooling resources and sharing best practices, Gabon and Senegal are positioning the transport sector as a key driver for regional economic growth, trade expansion, and continental integration.
